01 / CONTEXT AND GOAL

From scattered spreadsheets to a shared system.

Ecotec delivers projects in the solar energy industry. Before the application was built, many company processes relied on Excel files. Information was scattered, and keeping it current and consistent between people required extra coordination. This increased the risk of errors and reliance on outdated data. The aim was to bring project and resource management into one system.

We began with process analysis and a technical specification. We needed to describe not just individual tasks but also the relationships between projects, employees and the resources needed to carry out the work. We then designed the interface and built the web application using React and AdonisJS. Work was delivered in stages using Scrum, over more than a year.

The system covers seven connected areas: Projects, Employees, Accommodation, Tools, Vehicles, Activities and Notifications. The project overview leads to team information, schedules and activity progress, while resource management accounts for allocation to particular projects. Reflecting these relationships in a tool for everyday work was the most demanding part.

The result was a shared application available online to its users. After launch, the collaboration continued with new features and refinements to existing processes.
